Enjoy Viewing and Exploring Art at the Boise Art Museum

On your next trip to Boise, Idaho, take the opportunity to view the outstanding exhibits displayed at the Boise Art Museum. Artwork is displayed in permanent as well as changing exhibits at the Museum, so there is always something new and exciting to see. Special events and programs are regularly scheduled to support and enhance visitors' experiences and enjoyment of art.

The Boise Art Museum's Permanent Collection includes more than 2,300 items. One area of focus within the Museum's Collection is 20th century American Art, and examples of American Realism, ceramics and works by artists of the Pacific Northwest are well represented. Non-Western art and European works are also featured in the Museum's Permanent Collection.

Permanent Collection Exhibitions

Special themed exhibits display items from the Permanent Collection at the Boise Art Museum. Presently, a unique exhibit entitled Go Figure displays photographs, paintings, drawings and sculpture that interprets the figure. The focus of the exhibit is contemporary and non-traditional approaches to the figure. The artwork on display encourages questions about the artists' choices and motives in the depictions of their subjects.

Another fascinating exhibit that currently features items from the Museum's Permanent Collection is entitled H2O. This smaller exhibit includes artwork that depicts water in various forms, including types of precipitation as well as bodies of water.

Current Exhibitions

If you are interested in seeing artwork by a contemporary Idaho artist, you won't want to miss Ad Infinitum, the first solo museum exhibit by Gerri Sayler. This intriguing exhibit consists of more than 900 strands of sculpted hot glue, specially installed on site. The repeated cascades of drizzled, filigreed glue strands resemble glistening icicles, and the theme of her work relates to traditional crafts practiced by women as well as the fibrous inner systems of the human body.

An exhibit entitled Adventures and Artistic Impressions celebrates the work of Frederic Remington. Silver recasts of his sculptures as well as printed images of his works showcase Remington's diverse talents as a painter, illustrator and sculptor.

Programs and Events

Visitors interested in learning more about the art on display at the Boise Art Museum can take advantage of several special programs that are held regularly. Special Art Tours focused on current exhibits are held on the first Sunday of each month at the Museum. An informal adult program called Art Talk features discussions with artists and art experts on the first Thursday of each month.

In addition to Art tours and talks, children, teens and adults can participate in studio art classes and workshops at the Boise Art Museum.
